Intro to Adaptive Knitting
Knit Stars Masterclass with Beth Gorishek:
Intro to Adaptive Knitting
Learn how to adapt your knitting so it works with your body. From my home in Mason, Michigan, I’ll share a more flexible approach to making, where comfort, awareness, and choice are part of every stitch. In this masterclass, I use my Born This Way shawl pattern (included) to guide you through the fundamentals of adaptive knitting. I’ll show you how to adjust stitches, tools, and techniques so they feel better in your hands and in your body. Whether you are navigating disability, injury, or changes over time, you will learn how to make knitting your own and build confidence in the way you create.
Adaptive knitting is not a workaround
A note about my Knit Stars Masterclass
When I filmed my Knit Stars Masterclass for Season 8, I thought I was talking about adaptation.
And I was.
But over time, I’ve realized the conversation was always bigger than that.
What I was really talking about was permission.
Permission to stop feeling like there’s only one “right” way to knit. Permission to trust yourself. Permission to make this craft fit your life and your body instead of constantly trying to force yourself to fit the craft.
After Season 8 aired, I heard from so many knitters who thought they were the only ones changing things to make knitting work for them.
But every knitter adapts.
We change tools. We adjust our posture. We work differently depending on our bodies, our energy, and our lives.
That’s not failure.
That’s creativity.
That’s why this course still matters so much to me, and why I’m so proud that it is now offered as a stand alone course!
Yes, there are practical techniques inside it. But more than anything, I hope it helps people understand that they are allowed to work differently and still fully belong in this craft.
You are not doing it wrong.
You are adapting.
And adaptation is one of the most creative things we do.
Yours in Yarn,
Beth
